Everyone has arrived safely in Japan. Ray made his way from the Australia program arriving at 6:30 am. Eli came from LA and the rest of the group arrived from New York this afternoon. By 5 pm we were all at the Hotel Nikko Narita (except Cara who will join us tomorrow afternoon in Tokyo.)
We had time to settle into our rooms, take showers and then gather again to take a shuttle bus into the town of Narita to a shopping mall where we had dinner. Most students chose to eat at a tempura restaurant where the food was lightly fried and immediately placed on a dish in front of us. With a bowl of rice and miso soup everyone did a great job using chopsticks and trying some new vegetables and fish.
We had a few minutes to browse through a 100 yen store (dollar store) before catching the 8 pm bus back to the hotel. Everyone was pretty exhausted and happy to finally get some rest after traveling for a VERY long time!
Tomorrow we make our way to the Olympic Village in central Tokyo which will be our home for the next eight nights. We’ll be traveling by airport bus to Tokyo station and then experience inner city trains (thankfully not at rush hour). More about that adventure later!
